Welcome to the Dramaturgy Website for UNIBeauty and Her Wicked Daughters

Abstract of Research Project:

Within this research project, I will be exploring the elements that make this play a dynamic piece that is needed to be put on here at UCSC at this time. The question that dramaturgs answer in our work is, “why this work now”. The answer to that question is often a complicated one.

Coming out and living through the global pandemic has created a reemergence of fairy tales and a more critical look at capitalism. Fairy tales are often the easiest way to understand a moral or a value of society, we have consumed fairy tales and fables since we were children and have internalized those lessons. This play, in its simplest form, this play is a fairy tale about capitalism. While in the pandemic, capitalism and its destruction of the self and society came under harsh condemnation. Using the Johnson & Johnson asbestos scandal is an easier way show how corporations are able to get away with evil at all times.

I hope throughout reading this website, you will be able to understand how all parts of this story aid in our understanding of UNIBeauty in its fullest.
